Favourite Books of 2021

Hello there 👋🏼

Just dropping in on this snowy January day in Vancouver to share my favourite books of 2021.

Every year I create a reading challenge on Good Reads so that I create external accountability for reaching my reading goal. I'm a super slow reader and have found that setting this challenge has helped me read important and fantastic pieces of literature that would otherwise take me forever.

So without further ado, here are my favourite books of 2021.

  • How to Pronounce Knife, by Souvankham Thammavongsa. This book of short stories brings you into the inner world of people dealing the impacts of immigration, dislocation, cultural pressures on their changing identities.

  • Where the Forest Meets the Stars, by Glendy Vanderah. This book is both magical and thrilling, taking you on a woman journey through loss, illness and unexpected love.

  • The Tattooist of Auschwitz, by Heather Morris. A tearful yet hopeful read of Holocaust survivor, Sokolov's experiences as the man who tattooed the arms of thousands of prisoners.

  • THICK, by Tressie McMillan Cottom. Important essays about the prevailing racism in culture and politics.

Here are the rest of my 2021 book list:

Let me know if you've read any or want to discuss these books. Happy to create a safe space in counselling to explore your thoughts and feelings.

Stay strong,

Myriame
